As the coronavirus situation intensifies, medical supplies are becoming scarcer and scarcer. Medical companies are struggling to keep up with the overwhelming demand for medical necessities such as facemasks. However, there is a solution to this shortage that has people creating homemade facemasks to make up for the dwindling supply.

Spearheaded by MYE‘s 3D Design Class instructor, Andrew Wang, a group of dozen volunteers have been creating homemade masks for healthcare workers and first responders. The mask is created by 3D printing a headband and attaching a plastic sheet to the front, then finishing it with rubber bands to the back. This design is not only simple and functional, but can also be reused by disinfecting the mask. It blocks bodily fluids from being transmitted to and from the user and keeps people safe.
