Summer programs are programs and courses typically offered for high school students. These are great opportunities to get a glimpse of college life, explore your interests, and make friends. This year, many of the summer programs have gone virtual and extended the application deadlines. Here’s a list of summer programs listed by the dates of the application deadlines.
Michigan Math and Science Scholars
The Michigan Math and Science Scholars program is a pre-college program offering a variety of math and science courses for high school students, ranging from number theory to forensic science. These courses are taught by professors and research scientists at the University of Michigan. Three 2-week sessions are offered and students are given the opportunity to attend one, two or all three sessions.
Application deadline: rolling admissions and no firm deadline
Eligibility: high school rising sophomore, junior, or senior
Data Science Academy – Wharton Global Youth Program
The Data Science Academy is a part of the Wharton Global Youth Program. While introducing machine learning and data science tools to high school students, the program aims at building up statistical foundations together with empirical and critical thinking skills. Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to learn essential data science techniques such as data visualization and data wrangling and be exposed to modern machine learning methodologies.
Application deadline: April 15, 2021
Eligibility: high school rising sophomore, junior, or senior
LearnServe Global Summer Fellowship
The LearnServe Global Summer Fellowship invites high school students to virtually connect with their peers in Paraguay, South Africa, or Zambia to imagine and implement volunteer projects. With the current pandemic and highlighted social inequities, no matter where we live, everyone in the world is going through a similar experience. This program will offer a global perspective on social innovation.
Application deadline: May 1, 2021
Eligibility: all high school students
Leadership Institute | Brown University
The Leadership Institute is a four-week online program for students from all over the world who are passionate about issues such as human rights, educational access and economic justice. There will be student-led discussions in small groups, as students delve into problems and brainstorm possible solutions together. Students will practice a collaborative model of leadership and develop skills in active listening, public speaking, problem-solving, conflict resolution and teamwork.
Application deadline: May 7, 2021
Eligibility: students completing grades 9-12
