What is Breath-Body-Mind and why is it important?
Breath-Body-Mind for Teens (BBM-Teens) is an innovative mind-body program that teaches evidenced-base skills for balancing the stress response system. These simple, but powerful breath-based techniques rapidly reduce stress, fatigue, anxiety, anger, and other negative emotions. Studies show that breathing practices can turn down defensive reactions and turn on positive feelings of safety, bonding, and compassion. Students use voluntarily regulated breathing practices (VRBPs) to control anxiety about performance, test-taking, homework, and social situations. Specific techniques increase attention and mental focus.
Dr. Brown and Dr. Gerbarg have taught Breath-Body-Mind to thousands of adults and kids under stress worldwide, including at-risk youth, refugees, and survivors of disasters and abuse. Now their live, online interactive, engaging programs can be accessed from anywhere. BBM is being used by teens at Dwight School, Manhattan (40 countries are represented in its student body) and Manhattan Hunter Science High School.
