Many of us fail to recognize the importance of mental health. We are so caught up in maintaining our physical health that we forget our mental health can be just as important! Specifically, mindfulness has many positive effects on our health. For instance, the practice of mindfulness allows us to regulate our emotions, decrease stress, and reduce depression. Not to mention, this particular practice can also decrease the risks of certain diseases.
Here are some simple methods you can utilize to practice mindfulness:
-
Meditation
-
A significant amount of mindfulness originates from being able to recognize and appreciate the small details around you, as well as within you. Keep this is mind before you begin your exercise.
-
When meditating, sit down in a criss cross position, sit upright, and take deep breaths. Allow your mind to wander and live in the present.
-
-
Nature Walk
-
Nature contains infinite details that are often overlooked in every day life, which offers a great chance of appreciation and observance.
-
Choose a peaceful outdoor area to perform this activity. During the activity, walk slowly and focus on your sensations as well as your breathing. While doing so, acknowledge the balance of your movement and the subtle movements around you.
-
-
Practice Gratitude
-
In life, the small victories are often overlooked. Usually, our brains are so caught up on the small losses, that it becomes difficult to be thankful. The practice of gratitude allows us to return to the present rather than the past or future.
-
Reserve five to ten minutes to list everything you have to be thankful for. One way to do this is to keep a gratitude journal.
-
-
Music
-
Most people enjoy listening to their favorite songs and love to sing along. However, when you’re listening to these songs, what parts do you listen to? Most of us only pay attention to the melody. We often fail to acknowledge the small details that make up each masterpiece.
-
First of all, choose one of your favorite songs and listen to it. While you’re listening, focus on each instrument individually before listening to the song as a whole.
-
Take a moment and try out one of these activities! I hope you enjoy 🙂
