Must-Have Google Chrome Extensions for Students (Part 2!)

by Angela Xu

Welcome to part 2 of must-have Chrome extensions to make every student’s lives easier. In part 1, we covered 4 browser extensions for reading articles, and in this article, I will be sharing 6 new extensions for writing, studying, and productivity!

Dualless – A Free Dual Monitor

Dualless allows you to split screen so you can view two tabs at once. I personally don’t have a dual monitor, so this Chrome extension is a life-saver! Have to write a paper while looking at research? Doing a presentation and need your notes? Taking notes while watching a vide? Get Dualless. You can also split your screen both horizontally and vertically!

EasyBIB: Simple Citations

Accessing EasyBib.com Using JAWS | Paths to Literacy

Not only does EasyBib cite articles with just one click, and you can also cite in several different formats, based on experience level! Citing my sources is one of the most tedious parts of research projects, so this extension has definitely saved me valuable time! Click here to download 🙂

Forest: Stay Focused!

Forest is an amazing productivity browser extension that is based off of the Pomodoro method:

The trick is, for each 25-minute work session, you have to dedicate 100% attention and effort to the task. That’s where Forest comes in. Forest “gamifies” your studying by rewarding your focus by planting trees.

You can add websites that might distract you on the “Blocklist”, everytime you visit any of these websites during your work session, your tree dies 🙁 While planting trees to stay motivated may seem silly, I would definitely recommend at least trying to use this extension the next time you are working, you might be surprised at how fun it is!

Forest is available as a Chrome Extension or an app.

Todoist: To-Do List & Task Manager

Todoist allows you to set tasks and due dates just like a planner or Google Calendar and sort tasks by tags. What makes Todoist different from other planning apps is that you can track your progress and productivity:

Seeing these graphics definitely motivates me more to complete my work!

Here is their website: https://todoist.com/ and you can get the extension for Google Chrome here!

Noisli: Play Background Noise While Working!

If your somebody that can’t concentrate without listening to background music or white noise, then Noisli is the Chrome extension for you! You can choose from soothing lo-fi music, thunderstorms, rain, wind, fire crackling, and you can even make your own playlists!
