During these long weeks of break, we have had the opportunity to explore much of our interests. For me, that led to a lot of dabbling in the art of cooking. Which eventually led to me to meddle in making my own baked chicken recipe. Not only is this very simple, it is also pretty healthy. Additionally it would be a great recipe to make as a family with lots of roles to delegate out.
Ingredients
- 5 chicken thighs (please brine in salt water before hand)
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 1 teaspoons of brown sugar
- 0.5 a teaspoon of granulated sugar
- a few leaves of dried thyme (optional)
- 0.5 a teaspoon of pepper
- 1 teaspoon of dried garlic
- oil
Estimated prep time: 10 minutes (does not include time to brine chicken)
Estimate cook time: 30-35 minutes
Step-by-Step
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
- Remove your chicken from the brine. If you don’t have a preferred recipe to brine the chicken in, you can easily find one online. However, good old salt water works well too. That’s what I used for this recipe.
- Take a towel to pat your chicken dry
- In a small bowl, mix the salt, sugar, thyme, pepper, and dried garlic together
- Take your seasoning mixture that you just mix and massage it into each of your chicken thighs. You should use up all of the the seasoning mixture in this process
- Brush the top of each piece of chicken with oil
- Lay a baking pan with aluminum foil and put the chicken on top. It is suggested that you should pick a pan that has depth so that the oils from the chicken will not spill into the oven. Another option is to put the chicken on a rack with a tray underneath to catch the oil. This is similar to how you would bake a thanksgiving turkey. This process helps get rid of a lot of excess oil while you chicken remains moist and juicy, keeping healthier.
- Put the chicken in the oven and let it cook for 30 – 35 minutes until golden brown.
