After 6 years the creators of the first Ne Zha movie in 2019 came back and created the critically acclaimed sequel. This film sold out theaters everywhere and generated a whopping $2.085 billion. With this, it was China’s highest grossing film in history. With it’s story centered about family and self improvement it’s no wonder so many people like this movie.
The story begins soon after the previous film ended with a myriad of lotus flowers growing in the river. Then in a comical twist, everyone from the village disturbed the beauty and serenity of the lake. Then, they cooked the lotus to recreate the bodies of Ne Zha and Ao Bing that were destroyed in the previous movie.
After this process was finished, Tai Yi Zhen Ren told them that their bodies were still new and unstable. That’s when Shen Gong Bao and the dragons came. Due to Ao Guang losing his son, he was going to take it out on the village but Ao Bing stepped in and his new body was destroyed. In a last ditch effort to keep him in the mortal realm, Ne Zha allowed Ao Bing to use his body as a temporary vessel until Ao Bing could get a new body again. However, the stakes are high because Ao Guang gives them a limited amount of time before he destroys the entire village. Knowing this, he sets out with Tai Yi Zhen Ren to get an item from the leader of the Chan sect. In order to get what they ask for, Ne Zha must prove himself and act a certain way in front of this sect leader. So, Tai Yi Zhen Ren created a pill Ne Zha can take to replace his consciousness with that of Ao Bing. With this power, high jinks ensue and with a twist at the end of the movie. This movie shows the power of family and how someone can grow from what they were in the past.
